Email virus scanning

Borealis Internet subscribers,

Protect yourself from costly and potentially dangerous computer virus infections. Subscribe to our email virus scanning service today!

For only $2.35 per mailbox per month, our system will check your emails for viruses before they reach your mailbox and have the chance to do damage to your valuable data and equipment. We also offer discounted rates for subscribers with multiple email addresses.

This is how it works: When it finds a virus, the scanner blocks that message and quarantines it. You won’t see the infected message but you will receive another message from our system administrator telling you that you have been sent a virus.

The virus scanning service is updated several times daily to ensure that we remain on top of any new or emerging virus threats.

The system is blocking about 99.8% of the incoming viruses, 100 to 200 viruses on a normal day. That number increases to several hundred blocked viruses per day during serious virus epidemics.

Terms of Service: While the virus scanning service does offer excellent protection against email transmitted viruses, no system is completely effective.

For example, this email virus scanning service will NOT:

  • block viruses transmitted through other email providers, such as HotMail or Yahoo Mail, or File Transfers from any source, including ICQ or Instant Messaging.
  • scan encrypted files or attachments.

Due to these uncontrollable factors, we cannot guarantee 100% protection against virus attacks, nor can we accept responsibility for damages resulting from viruses received while subscribing to this plan.

Virus prevention tips. Internet users should continue to follow good online virus protection practices. For example:

  • do not open file attachments from sources that you do not know and trust. In other words, KNOW YOUR SOURCES, before you open an email attachment.
  • do not open any attachment containing a .vbs filename extension unless you are completely confident of the source.

Nearly all of the major virus outbreaks in recent months have directly attacked the Microsoft Outlook Mail program. Switching to an alternate mail system, such as Netscape or Eudora, can reduce your virus risk substantially. Instructions for setting up Eudora can be found here. Instructions for setting up Netscape can be found here.

Try it out! We think that the new virus scanning service will be a useful option to help prevent damages and losses due to virus infections. We hope you will give it a try.
